Our Ground Team

Our Ground Team (GT) is a vital component to the success of every flight. Without a good GT our balloon, Son Light, is grounded. Commonly called the chase crew – this title implies a group of people who only react to a situation and unfortunately do not anticipate what happens next. Addressing our crew as GT is an indication of thinking as a team or as the pilot thinks, keeping in mind the progress of an entire flight. The GT should be cross trained in all elements of hot air ballooning. The more they know the better they will perform and be prepared to make adjustments as a flight plan takes shape.

Example of Ground Team Responsibilities:

  1. Arrive at Launch Site
  2. Unload Trailer
  3. Unpack Balloon Equipment
  4. Assemble Balloon Equipment
  5. Inflate Envelope
  6. Observe Lift-off
  7. Visually Track Balloon Flight
  8. Assist With Landing
  9. Deflate Envelope
  10. Disassemble Balloon Equipment
  11. Repack Balloon Equipment
  12. Load Trailer
  13. Attend Post Flight Celebration
  14. Feel Energized From the Experience
  15. Tell Others About Your Adventure

A well trained GT is capable of working safely with little or no instruction.

Would you like to get involved in hot air ballooning? Joining our GT is a great first step! If you have never been a part of a hot air balloon team, do not feel intimidated. Virtually anyone can learn the ins and outs of hot air ballooning and the fundamental points of becoming an important member of our team. We have worked with many newcomers. Good listening skills and a can do attitude are helpful. Following the direction of the pilot is vital to the success of the Tecvisions Hot Air Balloon Team. Remember, if you become a member of our GT even as a beginner you are a very important public relations element of the hot air ballooning community. Balloon riders and spectators are always watching and listening. Gaining the respect of others will help you grow as a GT aviator!
