Tecvisions Balloon Rides is owned and operated by Tim Cloyd. Tim got started in hot-air ballooning in 2000 when hiswife’s cousin who is a balloon pilot came up to the National Balloon Classic in Indianola, Iowa and Tim and his family started crewing. From then Tim fell in love with the adventure of ballooning. In 2006 both Tim and his son Patrick purchased a balloon named Spitfire and both became pilots. Tim achieved his Commercial Pilot Certificate in 2008. Since then Tim has flown hot-air balloons throughout the United States including Canada and Europe and has logged nearly over 1,100 hours as pilot-in-command. Some of Tim’s most unique flights have been flying Dawn Patrol Flights which he launches one hour before sunrise. He also has flown high altitude long distance flights. These flights have reached altitudes of 17,000 feet and he has flown 10 flights between 105and 413 miles equaling nearly a total of 2,000 miles. For 8 years Tim flew the “Extreme Flight to Find a Cure”. This flight was a long distance high altitude flight to raise money for cancer organizations which over $41,000 was raised. They are eager to share their passion and enthusiasm for the sport of hot-air ballooning with you. Tim owns two Balloons: a Lindstrand 120,000 cu.ft. named Glorious Drifter and a Lindstrand 150,000cu.ft. Named Son Light. Son Light is the largest Iowa based balloon. Our balloons are FAA registered aircraft which are fully insured and inspected annually. Care is taken to maintain its excellent airworthiness status. Tim relies on a professional ground team starting with the backbone of the team, the Crew Chief his wife Elsie Cloyd. His ground team is another great aspect of ballooning. Hot Air Ballooning is a team sport and our pilot Tim could not do what he does without the expert help of the ground team. From driving the recovery vehicle, to unloading and loading the balloon and basket, to launching, deflation and packing up the balloon. Crew members are an integral part of having a safe balloon adventure. Tim is a flight instructor as well as a presenter at both safety seminars and FAA certified Ground School. He is very knowledgeable on interpreting weather and in aviation protocols making him aware of situations that may arise before they happen.
